Frequently asked questions
Will an old Nikkor lens fit my Nikon DSLR?
The F mount has stayed the same since 1959, so most lenses mount, but features differ. AI and AIS lenses fit all Nikon DSLRs and meter on models such as the D200 and D300. Pre-AI lenses should only be used on bodies that accept them, or after an AI conversion.
Will an AF lens autofocus on my camera?
Lenses marked AF-S have a built-in focus motor and autofocus on every Nikon DSLR. AF and AF-D lenses need a body with its own focus motor, such as the D70, D90, D200 or D300, or any Nikon autofocus film SLR.
What does DX mean?
DX lenses are designed for the smaller sensor in most Nikon consumer DSLRs. On a film camera or a full-frame body they show dark corners, so choose an FX or film-era lens for those cameras.
