Frequently asked questions
Which filter size do I need?
The filter size is printed on the front of the lens or inside the lens cap, often next to the Ø symbol, for example Ø 49mm or Ø 52mm. Choose a filter with exactly that thread size, or use a step-up ring for a larger filter.
Which adapter do I need to use a vintage lens on a mirrorless camera?
You need an adapter from the lens mount to the camera mount, for example M42 to Sony E or Canon FD to Fujifilm X. Simple adapters without glass keep focus to infinity on mirrorless cameras. You focus manually and set the aperture on the lens.
Why use coloured filters with black-and-white film?
A coloured filter changes how colours turn into grey tones. A yellow filter gives a darker sky and more contrast, orange and red make it stronger, and green lightens foliage and improves skin tones in portraits.
