Used lens hoods and lens caps
A lens hood blocks stray light that causes flare and loss of contrast, and it protects the front element from bumps and rain. A good lens cap keeps the glass clean when the lens is in your bag. At DutchThrift you will find used original lens hoods and caps for classic lenses, many of them made of metal.
- Metal lens hoods for Asahi Pentax and Takumar lenses, from 24mm wide angle to 200mm telephoto
- Original Nikon lens hoods for Nikkor lenses, for example from the HN, HB and HS series
- Lens hoods from Olympus, Canon, Yashica, Topcon, Mamiya and Leitz
- Bayonet I hoods for Rollei and Yashica twin-lens reflex cameras
- Front lens caps, such as Asahi Pentax metal caps in 49mm and 62mm and Contax caps in 59mm
Frequently asked questions
How do I find the right lens hood for my lens?
Check three things: how the hood attaches (filter thread, bayonet or clamp), the diameter in millimeters and the focal length it was designed for. A hood made for a longer focal length will cut off the corners of the image on a wider lens, which is called vignetting. Our product titles name the lenses a hood was made for whenever we know them.
Do I really need a lens hood?
A lens hood is one of the simplest ways to get more out of a vintage lens. Older lens coatings are often more sensitive to flare than modern ones, so a hood helps you keep contrast and color when shooting toward a light source. It also protects the front element against knocks and fingerprints.
