Light Meters

Used light meters and exposure meters

A handheld light meter tells you which shutter speed and aperture to use. That is essential with vintage cameras that have no meter of their own, or a meter that no longer works. At DutchThrift you will find used light meters for film photography, from classic selenium meters to CdS models and color temperature meters.

  • Gossen meters such as the Lunasix, Luna Pro, Sixtar, Sixtino and Polysix
  • Sekonic meters, including Auto Lumi and Studio Deluxe models
  • Minolta Auto Meter and Minolta Color Meter
  • Asahi Pentax meters that clip directly onto Pentax cameras
  • Classic meters from brands such as Capital, Revue, Bertram, Yashica and Leica
  • Color temperature meters such as the Gossen Sixticolor

Every item is tested and cleaned before sale, with a 90 day warranty and 14 days to return after delivery. Orders placed before 15:00 on business days ship the same day from the Netherlands. Shipping within the Netherlands is free from €75, and we deliver across the EU, to the UK and worldwide. Every piece is unique, so availability changes quickly.

Do I need a light meter for a vintage camera?

Many older cameras, such as mechanical rangefinders, medium format cameras and early SLRs, have no meter or one that is no longer reliable. A handheld meter gives a correct reading with any camera and can also measure the light falling on your subject, which helps with backlight and other tricky situations. Even if your camera has a working meter, a handheld meter is a useful check.

What is the difference between selenium and CdS light meters?

A selenium meter generates its own power from light, so it needs no battery. It works best in daylight and moderate light. A CdS meter runs on a battery and is more sensitive in low light. Some older CdS meters were designed for mercury cells that are no longer sold; check the product description to see which battery a meter uses.
