What is a film back?

On medium format systems such as Hasselblad, Mamiya and Bronica, the film sits in a removable back or magazine. With a spare back you can keep a second film type ready, or have a new roll loaded while you keep shooting.

What does a data back do?

A data back replaces the standard rear door of a 35mm camera and can imprint the date or time onto the frame. Most data backs use their own small battery.
